New Idea in Casual Games: iGameDock

» Posted on Jun 03 2010

June 2nd, 2010 by Jeff Scott

Bundle games have been tried before, but iGameDock swaps out its games every 2 week.

Most casual games have a limited lifespan. According to Dreamsky, people tend to get bored with many casual games, quickly. “We’ve learned from our experience as mobile game players and game developers, that most mobile games have a player attention span of 3-5 days. Hence it makes much sense to provide iGameDock as a continuing game feature platform for users so that they can keep trying new games without having to compromise on cost and memory space,” said Michael Chan, CEO, Dreamsky Technology.

In an attempt to market games in a short attention span world, Dreamsky has released iGameDock featuring a twice monthly changing game lineup. The first version has been released which features 3 games from the App Store combined into a single app all for $0.99. The first three games are Particle Wars, Doodle Left or Right, and Electron Zero. All full versions of their respective releases. Here’s a quick demo of the current games and the iGameDock app.

In addition to the games, Dreamsky will be presenting in the app links to other promotional games and plans on offering challenges to complete for future special rewards in the app. iGameDock is available now in the App Store for a great $0.99.

Dreamsky’s iGameDock gives you 3 new games every 2 weeks

» Posted on Jun 01 2010

iGameDock iPhone, thumbnail 1
Here’s a neat idea. Released by Chinese developer Dreamsky, iGameDock is an app that provides you with three games in one. So what, you’re thinking?

The clever bit is every two weeks, the titles are swapped out with new games being introduced. In this way, iGameDock serves up gamers with constantly changing content, as well as working as a discovery mechanism for developers.

For example, they can build up a fanbase for their games over that two week period, using it as a springboard for a full App Store release, whether paid, free-to-play or ad funded.

All-in-one

Adding to the package, iGameDock includes the FreeAppADay feed so you can see what other games are currently free via that promotion and easily download them.

The launch three titles also use the Scoreloop social gaming platform to provide leaderboards, challenges and virtual coins. It’s not clear whether selected games will have to use Scoreloop; unlikely we think.

Games will be limited in size to less than 20 MB though so the updates can be downloaded over-the-air via 3G.

As for the first three games, they’re a good mixture.

Left or Right is a brain game where you’re shown photos of a hand and have to select whether it’s a right or left hand (harder than it sounds); Electron Zero is a Simon Says memory game, while Particle Wars is a very nice Geometry Wars clone.

All three are full versions of games that have already been released on the App Store.

Well worth checking out for 99c, €0.79 or 59p, even without the promise of three new games in two weeks time.
